Intel helps you deliver innovative in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) solutions that keep pace with consumer demand and the rapid evolution of consumer electronics products. Utilizing Open Infotainment Platforms (OIP) based on Intel® architecture, automotive manufacturers can deploy a single, common hardware and software architecture that is scalable across product lines and generations, greatly reducing R&D costs as well as de-bug and validation efforts. This allows OEMs to reallocate resources to software development of new services and applications that can be downloaded onto already-validated IVI systems. It also simplifies product upgrades and speeds time-to-market.

So, enjoy the ride! Along with a robust and interoperable development environment, Intel's broad third-party ecosystem, including members of the Intel® Embedded and Communications Alliance, supports you with multiple levels of integration, supply-chain flexibility, a vast selection of high-quality products, economies of scale, and extensive R&D investments.

To keep pace with consumer demand, IVI developers and auto manufacturers need a platform that provides seamless integration between home, office and car, and bridges the gap from generation–to–generation of product development. Intel® architecture is highly interoperable with Wi–Fi, Bluetooth*, cellular, WiMAX and emerging technologies like Ultra–Wideband, allowing OEMs to easily incorporate digital content into a head unit, now and in the future. Additionally, most consumer software is developed on and for the PC which lets developers easily add a breadth of applications to Intel®–based IVI systems via software–only upgrades.

With the introduction of the Intel® Atom™ microarchitecture, a very low–power implementation of Intel architecture, Intel continues to meet the design requirements of mobile computing and small form factor embedded applications. When coupled with extensive hardware and software from Intel’s large community of developers, OEMs benefit from rapid development and simplified upgrades at minimal cost.

Seamless integration between home office and car

To keep pace with consumer demand, developers and auto manufacturers need an in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) platform that provides seamless integration between home, office and car, while maintaining compatibility and interoperability between successive generations of products.

With the introduction of the Intel® Atom™ microarchitecture, a very low-power implementation of Intel® architecture, Intel continues to meet the design requirements of mobile computing and small form factor embedded systems, including IVI systems. When coupled with extensive hardware and software from Intel’s large community of developers, automotive OEMs and their suppliers benefit from rapid development and simplified upgrades at minimal cost.

Design highlights

  • Intel architecture technology is fully interoperable with existing home and office technology
  • Support for typical in-vehicle infotainment connectivity functions, including Bluetooth wireless connectivity, Media Oriented Systems Transport* (MOST*) interface support, CAN network connectivity, Ethernet and more
  • Broad software compatibility enables software-only upgrades
