SATA Device Presence
The flow used to indicate SATA device presence is shown in the Figure below. The ‘PxE’ bit refers to bits, depending on the port being checked and the ‘PxP’ bits refer to the bits, depending on the port being checked. If the PCS/PxP bit is set a device is present, if the bit is cleared a device is not present. If a port is disabled, software can check to see if a new device is connected by periodically re - enabling the port and observing if a device is present, if a device is not present it can disable the port and check again later. If a port remains enabled, software can periodically poll PCS.PxP to see if a new device is connected.
