Enable Wake-On-LAN – (Intel NUC)

To enable Wake-On-LAN on Intel NUC, here are the steps:

  1. Go to the BIOS menu, select Power, Performance and Cooling, then Secondary Power Settings, on Wake on LAN from S4/S5, select Power On – Normal Boot.
  2. Launch the terminal and follow the command below:
  3. Note:You are required to install ethtool.
    $ sudo apt install ethtool
  4. Check NIC support for Wake-On-LAN (WOL) and the current status of WOL.

  5. $ sudo ethtool enp114s0

    On Supports Wake-On value ends with ‘g’, it means this NIC supports WOL.

    On Wake-on value as ‘d’ means WOL is currently disabled. Once WOL is enabled, it will change to 'g'

  6. Enable the WOL function on NIC.

  7. $ sudo ethtool -s enp114s0 wol g
  8. Make WOL persist after reboot.

  9. $ sudo --preserve-env systemctl edit --force --full wol-enable.service
  10. Type in the following content.

    Description=Enable Wake-up on LAN
    [Service]
    Type=oneshot
    ExecStart=/sbin/ethtool -s enp114s0 wol g
    [Install]
    WantedBy=basic.target
  12. Reload and enable the service.
    $ sudo systemctl daemon-reload
    $ sudo systemctl enable wol-enable.service
