Intelligent Desktop Virtualization (IDV) for Education
Introduction
IDV for Education Solution is a software implementation of Intelligent Desktop Virtualization (IDV) designed specifically for education use cases to address the need for cost-effective setup with optimized performance. This project leverages the capability of graphics SR-IOV virtualization technology on Intel platforms and open-source software.
Graphics SR-IOV is Intel’s virtualization technology for graphics and is available starting from the 12th Generation Intel® Core™ Processors (Alder Lake) platform.
The key benefits of this technology are:
- This is a standard method of sharing the physical GPU with virtual machines, thus allowing efficient use of GPU resources in a virtual system.
- Improved video transcode and media AI analytic workloads performance in virtual machines.
- Supports up to 4 independent display outputs and 7 virtualized GPU functions.
- Supports multiple guest operating systems (for example, Windows* and Linux*).
The IDV for Education Solution also provides:
- Teachers: an easy-to-use digital education solution for computer labs and classrooms with centralized management software that manages and controls IDV Guests.
- System Integrators: an easy mass provisioning method to pre-provision bare metal IDV Hosts and IDV Guests before actual deployments to the schools.
