Introduction

This whitepaper describes the value of using industry specifications from the MIPI Alliance for Debug Interfaces. In the past, Intel, and other companies, have added proprietary debug interfaces for their devices as they needed to extend the debug capability that JTAG originally provided. Once again, the industry is evolving, from a device-by-device debug environment, to a platform ecosystem. The MIPI debug specifications are evolving to accommodate this platform environment. Intel is using this opportunity to move from proprietary interfaces to MIPI-defined debug interfaces.

This paper describes how Intel is using MIPI Debug Specifications to lead the marketplace and build a secure platform debug ecosystem that can be used by OEM/ODM’s to support all platforms. This leadership is intended to encourage all suppliers and vendors to support this new secure platform debug ecosystem.

The targeted audience is public, for all suppliers of products which could use this debug technology and extend its acceptance.
